Transportation in Italy

Around Rome

Rome has a variety of sustainable options for getting around though students are barred from using electric scooters and electric bikes, the public transportation system is a great way to get around with buses, the Metro, and trams. Notre Dame students studying abroad get a pass for the semester that lets them use all those methods but visitors can easily get one, two, five, or ten BIT 100 minute passes; ROMA24/48/72 hour tourist tickets, and integrated weekly cards (CIS). These can be purchased at Metro stations, newsagents, tobacconists and affiliated bars.

Recommended links and apps:

  • Rome's Public Transportation Website: ATAC

  • Moovit - App that tracks live location of Public Transport (is useful for buses because they don't always follow a consistent schedule)
